Antwerp was mercantile, Protestant in its bones — Ghent is older and stranger, a city that kept revolting and never quite stopped. She comes by train, forty minutes south, and the light is already different: heavier, more medieval, like it gets trapped between the guild facades and can't find a way out. She is not here for the altarpiece.
